Indian space agency Isro to roll out a rival to Google Earth

Indian space agency Isro to roll out a rival to Google Earth – Times Online.

And yet another pointless failure is planned.  What’s the point of this?  I don’t get it.  Why start from 4 years behind working on a Google Earth clone “with an Indian focus”.  Is Google Earth really that Ameri-centric?  It’s a map.  And what’s the plan?  Why do this?  What would differentiate them from Google Earth?

To who ever has posted this thread..
First up look Many of the people working in
google are indians & you may know we Indians are technically very intelligent but we dont have the kind of funding on the projects as americans do have.. so to speak truth..
we have the capability to do juat about anything we want in the technical field
as an example we are right now replicating
the technology that is in google earth with a much better resolution, a better zoom in
& the Indian areas which are ignored by western people will be show in that & that too free of cost, I believe google earth is free up to some extent & after that they charge for using it for advertising purposes etc.. so Bhuvan is project that is developed to provide the same facilities & may be even better than google at very low cost or may be even free..
& pls dont you dare call it as a pointless failure.. we are matching with the global
    technology & superior scientific research
    in every area thats imaginable..
so why do you think its something useless..
dont the americans imitate so many things that were first done by some one else..
as a matter of fact have a history of scientists who actually have got the breakthroughs earlier than their western counterparts but were still denied the credits becoz we were considered third world countries, but no one can stop us from having our credit & honor..

That’d be me because it’s my blog.

    > you may know we Indians are technically very intelligent

I didn’t think I implied otherwise. I said it’s pointless because Google already has the market share, so no one will use something coming late to the game.

Disagree? Fine. But talk to the French first. They tried their own Google Earth clone. What was the name of it again? Oh yeah – Fail.

    > pls dont you dare call it as a pointless failure

Yeah I will. Because it’s my blog, and that’s my opinion.

    > we are matching with the global
    technology & superior scientific research

You’re matching it 4 years later. Google already won they eyeballs. That’s my point.

    > dont the americans imitate so many things that were first done by some one else blah blah blah bullshit bullshit bullshit.

Whatever. Yeah, I know Indians invented the lightbulb first. I don’t care. I’m not even American.
